Clifford, The Big Red Cinema Screen Dog

"As Louis C.K. points out in a hilarious anti-Clifford bit on Louis C.K. Live at the Beacon, all the Clifford books 'tell the exact same story: ‘Look how big this dog is.’ That’s the whole book.' It seems like a pretty flimsy setup for a feature-length film, but then again, that didn’t stop Universal from making tons of money on The Lorax" (Slashfilm.com).
I haven't seen The Lorax but GGP did and they said it was hilarious so as soon as it hits Blue Ray I'll be checking it out. But from what I've heard if this movie was that funny and entertaining about a weird creature who happened to remember when all the trees were cut down and the rest of the environment with it, then this next movie adaptation will be enjoyable. Yep, that's right, in case you didn't know, The Lorax was a book from Dr. Seuss about us destroying the environment. It just makes you want to go out there and hug a tree.

But back to the movie adaptation, Clifford, The Big Red Dog is coming to the big screen in a live action/animation film for all ages! Yea! And I mean that literally, I love Clifford and grew up with that Big Red Dog totally being awesome and huge in every tale! And my little girl is going to be born next month and I can't wait to take her to see this movie because by the time it comes out hopefully she'll be able to sit through a movie, and be a fan of Clifford as well.

So how can they make this a movie, as already said above each book was about how big the dog was. How would you reach anyone to come see it? What do these books really have? Well let's see, there is a cute little blonde, there is the trading of city life for a nice country side, there is a dog, the color red—so all the wannabe Bloods will go see it, there is a big animal, oh yeah did I mention there is a dog that combines three of those things I cited? Come on who doesn't love dog movies!? All the Beethoven's, Air Buds and sadly and apparently popular Air Buddies, Marley and Me, I am Legend, and the Homeward Bound movies, plus so much more! Let's not forget TV shows as well and all I need to do for that one is say one word: Lassie! People love to see dogs. And since Clifford will be CGI he'll probably be able to do things we wish are dog could do…like be completely and naturally read and become 25 feet tall. And do it by a little blonde girl loving him sooooo much! Seriously, blonde girls and dogs; America, we're suckers for them! In my opinion, this book was all about a dog who beat the odds because someone showed him just how much she loved him and he became the biggest dog around to prove to her that her love for him wasn’t wasted.

It should be a good movie because they hired Matt Lopez (The Sorcerer's Apprentice—another great movie; the perfect blend of science and magic and comedic timing) to write the script of the adaptation of Norman Bridwell's character that has been around since 1963 (Slashfilm.com).

But you're still probably asking how could they make a move off books based on a big red dog? Add older slightly more adult comedy like it seemed they did with The Lorax. It's a long shot; I can see that, but why not? In a world where kids want to grow up so fast it's good to see that we have some people who want to take childhood classics and make something special out of them, and since Disney is out of Princesses, they're scrambling for other ideas so we'll see how long they stay on top. I'm excited, Clifford was a big part of my life and I can't wait to share him with my little girl. But until next time, According to Michael III, and this will sound really cheesy but I'm saying it, Clifford makes our hearts grow as big as him.
